I’ll be honest: A Court of Thorns and Roses is the reason I read again.
Before ACOTAR, I hadn’t seriously picked up a book in 8+ years. Then somehow I ended up in Prythian, completely invested in Feyre, Rhysand, and an entire world of courts, faeries, magic, and romance.
And suddenly… I was a reader again. 😂
Since then, I’ve gone down a pretty deep fantasy and romantasy rabbit hole, and I’ve found quite a few books that gave me that same feeling of “just one more chapter.”
So if you finished ACOTAR and are sitting there wondering “okay… what am I supposed to read now?”, here are some of my favorites to try next.
🌹 1. Throne of Glass — Sarah J. Maas
For when you want MORE Sarah J. Maas.
If you loved ACOTAR, honestly, this is probably the most obvious recommendation — and one I stand behind.
I read the entire Throne of Glass series, and getting to experience Sarah J. Maas build another massive fantasy world was so much fun. There’s action, romance, magic, friendships, betrayal, and characters that you become ridiculously attached to.
One thing I really enjoyed about this series was watching the story grow. It starts one way and becomes SO much bigger than you expect.
If you love getting completely immersed in a fantasy world, put this one on your list.

🐉 2. Fourth Wing — Rebecca Yarros
Dragons + romance + “I literally cannot put this down.”
If what you loved about ACOTAR was the romance mixed with fantasy, I think you’ll have a great time with Fourth Wing.
This one throws you into Basgiath War College, where Violet is training to become a dragon rider — and basically everything is trying to kill her. 😂
The combination of dragons, high stakes, romance, secrets, and constant danger made this such a fun read for me. It’s one of those books where you can see yourself saying, “I’ll stop after this chapter,” and then realizing you’ve read another 100 pages.
And yes, the dragons are a HUGE selling point.

Fourth Wing is the first book in Rebecca Yarros’ ongoing Empyrean series.
🔥 3. Legendborn — Tracy Deonn
If you want fantasy with a completely different flavor.
Legendborn is one I’d especially recommend if you’re looking for a fantasy story with Black characters, Black history, magic, and a modern twist on Arthurian legend.
The story follows Bree, a Black teenager who arrives at UNC–Chapel Hill and discovers a secret society connected to the descendants of King Arthur’s knights.
And I LOVE that setup.
You get magic and mystery, but there’s also grief, family, identity, and the history surrounding Bree’s own life. It makes the fantasy feel connected to something much deeper.
This is definitely one of those books where I went in thinking I knew what I was getting — and then the story kept opening up.

Legendborn is the first book in The Legendborn Cycle, which now includes Bloodmarked and Oathbound.
🌍 4. Children of Blood and Bone — Tomi Adeyemi
For when you want a BIG fantasy world.
Children of Blood and Bone is such an immersive fantasy. The story takes place in Orïsha, a West African-inspired world where magic has been taken from the maji.
What I loved about this one was the scale of the world. There is magic, political conflict, family, power, and a journey that feels genuinely epic.
It’s also one of the books on this list that I’d recommend if you’re specifically looking to read more fantasy by Black authors.
If you’re someone who loves getting lost in a completely new world, this is definitely worth checking out.

Yes, I’m putting ACOTAR on the list. Obviously.
I couldn’t make an “If You Loved ACOTAR” list without talking about the book that started my entire reading comeback.

But even if you’ve already read it, I honestly think ACOTAR is worth revisiting because there’s something special about being introduced to Prythian for the first time.
For me, this wasn’t just another fantasy book. It reminded me that I actually loved reading.
After not reading for more than eight years, finishing ACOTAR made me want to find another book immediately. Then another. And another.
And now I’m here making a whole book blog about it. 😂
